Chasing Ice Documentary

Please answer the following questions:

1) Is a documentary like this effective in getting across environmental points to the public? Why or why not?

2) a. Why do you think that the issue of global climate change is so difficult for people to grasp/understand?

b. There is a plethora of evidence for climate change, yet people keep finding ways to try to de-validate the scientific evidence. Some people even attempt to state that human actions have no influence or do not contribute to climate change. Why is it so easy for people to be dissuaded about the facts that are present?

3) What do you feel/think about climate change?

4) What do you feel is society's responsibility when it comes to pollution and climate change? How do we act upon this?

The above questions must be answered no later than Friday midnight

Whoa! I threw a curveball accidentally...

OK, after looking at the last practice problems I posted, and talking with you, I think we need to backtrack a little. For those of you who were able to solve them, or took the time to work through them, great job! For those that were left scratching their heads, don't worry! Many of those were tough due to the multiple conversions and unit changes needed. My fault on jumping into the fast lane right away.

I have included another set of problems linked below. This will give a more realistic approach to the kinds of single and double conversions/scientific notation you need to be able to do. I would be more than happy to go through any sticking points you have on this sheet next week (before school, lunch, after school, etc.). Please work through the problems in the link below and be ready to discuss by the end of next week.

The problems are due Next Thursday/Friday.

Using Math in Environmental Science

ReminderIf you have not responded to the "Silencing Science" Blog post you still need to do so! I                      will still accept responses if posted over the weekend.

We will be testing chapter 12 the end of next week (Thursday/Friday)

Reminder: March 13-14 (Depending upon A or B day) is when the alternative Energy Projects are due.

Silencing Science

Please read the following article from Smithsonian.com linked below. I have also linked a follow up article that may help with some background information. Questions below (a blog response).

Canadian Scientists Explain Exactly
How Their Government Silenced Science

What is the public's role in ensuring that correct and factual scientific information is available to the general public AND the governing bodies that set regulations and laws?

What is the public's role in holding governing bodies accountable in the use of current factual scientific data in making decisions?
